Introduction |
|
The University inherited this Department
from its predecessor institution, Government College Sargodha, where postgraduate
teaching
started in 1963. In Urdu studies we emphasise critical understanding
of the ways in which texts come into being and can be analysed. During study of Urdu
literatures we will introduce different critical approaches, and show how to recognise
and challenge the ways in which historical debates in such areas as gender, ethnicity
and class, are constructed and perpetuated in Urdu language, literature and culture.
Not only does one has the opportunity to read an exciting range of text, but also
he thinks about how he reads and how others have read, and he assesses the usefulness
of different approaches while working out his own. Special attention is being paid
to research in language & literature. Twenty one research dissertations were successfully completed from 1996 to 2006. Nine more students are doing research
work in the current session (2006-07). After the inception of the University of
Sargodha, the Department is working for the promotion of teaching, research and
creative writing skills and activities with a new vigor. The department is also
planning to start some new programmes of higher education & research in near
future which may be as under:
|
- PhD in Urdu
- MPhil in Urdu.
- MA Urdu: Language Teaching &
Linguistics.
- BA (Hons) program
